THE ROLE
We are looking for a senior payroll administrator to work within our busy department, which looks after over 200 payrolls for businesses from Newcastle to London, in all areas of commerce and ranging in size from 1 employee to 250. Below we have provided the key responsibilities for the role, some of which are essential and others desirable, however training can be provided where necessary.
The responsibilities of the role are:
- Taking full responsibility of end-to-end payroll processing including auto enrolment pensions.
- Ensuring all Full Payment Submissions and Employer Payment Summaries are filed with HMRC on time.
- Answering all client and internal queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensuring data accuracy and quality of output is of the very highest standard.
- Calculate, process and advise on statutory payments and court orders.
- Calculate, advise and process annual leave entitlement upon request.
- Uploading and maintaining pension data including making the relevant declarations to the pension regulator.
The responsibilities of the role are:
- Assist junior members of the team with queries as and when required and review work produced before client delivery.
- Calculate and process individual occupation maternity and sickness policies when required.
- Setting up and approving BACS payment for salary and PAYE payments.
- Producing payroll reports and creating payroll journals.
- Liaising with various government agencies regarding payment or data discrepancies and reconciliation of PAYE accounts.
- Setting up pension schemes with pension providers and/or on payroll software.
ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED
The key attributes that we will look for are:
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll and auto enrolment legislation.
- Demonstrable experience in end-to-end payroll processing of varying size, frequency and complexity.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience working under pressure in a busy payroll bureau and to deadlines.
- Approachable, professional and positive attitude.
- Confidence in delivering clear, understandable and practical advice both internally and externally.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to self-manage are essential, while remaining flexible and adaptable.
- Previous experience of STAR payroll would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided.

The service line encompasses different teams and shares many of its staff with the audit service line giving them a wide and varied range of experiences.
Our clients range from small sole traders, family trusts and landed estates through to large international manufacturers and professional practices, all spread across the UK and Europe, but predominately in the North East of England.
Teams working in the service line cover payroll, bookkeeping, VAT and accounting services for all businesses with some specialising in client sectors such as agriculture, landed estates, IT, property and law. Our specialist trainers also look after the induction of new starters and education of our trainee accountants as they progress though their career to professional qualification.
The payroll department concentrates purely on payroll work for clients who range from single director companies through to 250+ employees working in the UK for international businesses and local firms.
We have a reputation for delivering excellent and accurate information on a timely basis and maintaining a close professional relationship with all clients.

Pay: £28,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
