Multi-Trade Handyman / Maintenance Operative (Subcontractor)

About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Multi-Trade Handyman to provide maintenance support across three Ofsted-registered children's homes located in Lewisham, Stratford and Enfield.
The successful candidate will carry out a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure the homes remain safe, well-maintained, and compliant. As the role involves working in environments occupied by vulnerable young people, professionalism, reliability, and a strong safeguarding awareness are essential.
Typical Duties
- General repairs and maintenance
- Basic plumbing repairs
- Basic electrical repairs (within competency and qualifications)
- Carpentry and joinery works
- Painting and decorating
- Door, lock and window repairs
- Flooring repairs and replacements
- Furniture assembly and minor installations
- Responding to reactive maintenance issues
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Multi-Trade Handyman / Maintenance Operative
- Own van, tools and valid driving licence
- Public Liability Insurance
- Good knowledge across multiple trades
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload
- Excellent communication skills
- Reliable, trustworthy and professional manner
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in a relevant trade
- Basic electrical qualification (18th Edition desirable)
- Plumbing or carpentry qualifications
- PASMA, IPAF or other trade-related certifications
- First Aid qualification (desirable)
Safeguarding Requirements
Due to the nature of the sites:
- Enhanced DBS Check (will be eventually required)
- Understanding of safeguarding and working around vulnerable young people
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
- References will be required
