Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Mental Health Nursing Home in Tooting on a bank contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in a clinical setting, ensuring the well-being and comfort of all patients. PURPOSE OF POSITION
- To promote professional, clinical, administrative arrangements, training and care planning within the home.
- To maintain and monitor the health and welfare of the client group and to observe any neglect of furnishings and fitments.
Professional & Management:
- To conduct care & management in such a way so as not to bring the home or its clients into disrepute.
- To maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of care and management of the home.
- To inform the Matron if any serious difficulty or abnormality takes place.
- To delegate responsibilities within line management.
- To be knowledgeable regarding health & safety at work including environmental health.
- To attend and contribute to staff meetings.
Clinical:
- To give any medication as prescribed, with proper monitoring of the drug, dose, time, route and person to whom it is given. To ensure the medication is properly taken, and to monitor for any normal, positive or negative effects of that drug.
- To have knowledge of the use of any equipment within the home.
- To be knowledgeable regarding emergency procedures pertaining to our client group.
- To respond to the spiritual, emotional, physical and mental needs of the client.
- To liaise with the clients, staff, GP's and other multi-disciplinary team members to promote good care.
- To monitor clients' hygiene and self-care.
Administrative:
- To foster good working relationships.
- To take part in staff meetings.
- To be aware of all procedures of the Home.
- To comply with the Registered Homes Act 1984 as in the local authority guidelines which are available for reference purposes in the home.
- To maintain proper and accurate records regarding the clients and other home information.
- To be knowledgeable regarding the whereabouts of all clients at all times.
- To bring to the attention of the Matron any repairs and renewals of fixtures and fittings.
- To resolve problems arising in the home, if possible and, where problems persist, to refer to the Matron.
Training:
- To be up to date with recent care developments, attend relevant courses and teach other staff in all aspects of relevant care.
- To develop training methods for the improvement of clients' rehabilitative processes, with hands on involvement as required.
- To teach relevant information and knowledge to other staff.
- To take part in induction training of all new staff.
- To participate in and to encourage care studies in order to give a wider understanding of clients' abilities and problems.
Care Planning:
- To influence and monitor care, utilising the nursing process.
- To write reports on daily events.
- To make sure all relevant information is handed over at the change of shifts.
- Any such other reasonable duties as may be required.
Skills
- Proven experience in patient care within a Mental Health Environment is desirable.
- Proficiency in medication administration with attention to detail to prevent errors.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate compassionate care in challenging situations.
- Organised with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety and hygiene.
- Knowledge of current healthcare regulations and best practices related to nursing care. This position is ideal for committed nursing professionals eager to make a positive impact on patient lives through expert care and support.
