Hotel Maintenance Assistant

Job Purpose
To ensure the hotel is maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and colleagues. The Hotel Maintenance Assistant is responsible for carrying out general maintenance tasks, completing routine safety checks, liaising with contractors, and assisting with the upkeep of the hotel's buildings and grounds.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Maintenance
- Carry out minor repairs throughout the hotel, including guest bedrooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
- Undertake basic plumbing, carpentry, and maintenance tasks where competent to do so.
- Replace light bulbs, repair fixtures and fittings, adjust doors, tighten handles, and complete other general repair work.
- Assemble or move furniture and equipment as required.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from departments.
Preventative Maintenance
- Complete planned maintenance tasks in line with the hotel's maintenance schedule.
- Regularly inspect guest rooms and public areas to identify maintenance issues before they become larger problems.
- Keep accurate records of completed maintenance work.
Health & Safety & Compliance
- Carry out routine fire safety checks, including emergency lighting, fire alarm call points (where required), fire doors, and fire escape routes in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and report any hazards.
- Ensure compliance records are completed accurately and on time.
- Report any issues requiring specialist attention to the Hotel Manager.
Contractor Management
- Welcome and supervise external contractors while they are on site.
- Ensure contractors sign in and follow site health and safety procedures.
- Assist with providing access to plant rooms, guest areas, and service areas where required.
- Report on completed contractor works and highlight any follow-up actions.
Decorating & Grounds Maintenance
- Carry out minor decorating tasks, including touch-up painting and basic cosmetic repairs.
- Maintain the appearance of external areas, including litter picking, sweeping, weeding, and light gardening duties.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance, such as clearing leaves and keeping outdoor areas tidy and safe.
Hotel Presentation
- Ensure the hotel always remains safe, clean, and presentable for guests.
- Assist departments with moving equipment or setting up areas where required.
- Support housekeeping or other departments with maintenance-related requests when necessary.
Health & Safety
- Follow all hotel health and safety policies and procedures.
- Use tools and equipment safely and report any defects.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where required.
- Immediately report accidents, hazards, or unsafe conditions.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Previous experience in general maintenance, facilities, caretaking, or a similar role.
- Practical DIY skills and the ability to complete minor repairs safely.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
- Good communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable if travel between sites is required).
Desirable
- Previous experience within a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Experience liaising with contractors.
- Basic knowledge of fire safety procedures.

Pay: £13.50-£14.50 per hour
