Children Panel Solicitor – Hybrid
Nuneaton | £60,000–£70,000 DOE + Bonus
Are you a Children Panel-accredited solicitor looking for varied work, greater responsibility and a clear opportunity to progress?
This established regional law firm is growing its childcare department and is looking for an experienced solicitor or legal executive to handle a genuine mixture of parent and Children’s Guardian work.
Alongside managing your own publicly funded childcare caseload, you’ll have the opportunity to supervise junior colleagues, contribute to the development of the department and progress into a broader leadership position.
What’s on offer
- £60,000–£70,000 depending on experience
- Additional bonus scheme
- Hybrid working: two office days per week initially, increasing to three after probation
- Flexibility around individual circumstances
- 23 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
- Your birthday off
- Four additional days off over Christmas
- Pension: 5% employee and 3% employer contributions
- Death in Service cover of up to £100,000
- MediCash healthcare plan
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Free parking
- Discounted legal services
- Ongoing training and progression opportunities
- Firm-funded bi-monthly lunch club and regular social events
The role
You’ll manage a varied caseload of publicly funded children matters, including:
- Representing parents and Children’s Guardians in care proceedings
- Advising clients from initial instruction through to final hearing
- Conducting advocacy where appropriate
- Building strong relationships with clients, Cafcass, local authorities and other professionals
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
- Supporting the continued growth and development of the department
- Contributing to appropriate business development activities
The role offers the opportunity to retain a varied caseload while taking on meaningful leadership responsibilities within a growing team.
What we’re looking for
Current Children Panel Accreditation is essential. Rather than requiring a specific level of PQE, the firm is interested in applicants who can demonstrate:
- Strong experience handling public children law and care proceedings
- The ability to manage matters independently
- Excellent client care and communication skills
- Confidence conducting advocacy where appropriate
- A collaborative and supportive approach
- An interest in supervising or mentoring junior colleagues
Existing supervisor status would be advantageous but is not essential, provided you have the experience and interest required to develop in this area.
Why consider this opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a growing department where you can:
- Handle a genuine mixture of parent and Children’s Guardian work
- Take on greater responsibility without moving away from fee-earning
- Help develop junior members of the team
- Influence the future growth of the department
- Build towards a longer-term leadership position
- Join a firm that invests in its people, technology and working environment
