About the Role
Alpha Vera Consulting is seeking an experienced, visionary Senior Data Architect to join our enterprise data and analytics practice in London. In this strategic technical leadership role, you will define the blueprint for our client-facing and internal data platforms—designing scalable data models, modern data warehouse architectures, and cloud governance frameworks to power advanced analytics, business intelligence, and AI/ML capabilities.
Working alongside Data Engineers, Cloud Architects, Analytics Leads, and C-suite stakeholders, you will bridge the gap between complex business requirements and modern data architecture. This position balances high-level enterprise architecture design with hands-on technical governance, offering an exceptional opportunity to shape the data trajectory of leading UK organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Enterprise Data Strategy & Blueprinting: Define, articulate, and maintain end-to-end data architectures across public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to support scalable reporting, real-time streaming, and predictive analytics.
- Data Modeling & System Design: Conceptualize, design, and govern conceptual, logical, and physical data models (relational, dimensional, Data Vault 2.0, and graph models) optimized for query speed, storage efficiency, and cost control.
- Modern Platform Architecture: Oversee the structural design of cloud data warehouses, data lakes, and modern data mesh/lakehouse architectures using technologies like Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Data Governance & Security Standards: Establish protocols for data quality, lineage, master data management (MDM), role-based access control (RBAC), and compliance with UK GDPR and ISO 27001 regulations.
- Integration Patterns & Pipeline Oversight: Design high-throughput batch and streaming ingestion patterns, recommending modern orchestration (Apache Airflow) and transformation tools (dbt) for engineering teams.
- Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Translate business strategy into technical roadmaps, present architectural blueprints to executive leadership, and mentor senior data engineers and analysts.
Skills & QualificationsEssential
- 5+ years of commercial experience as a Data Architect, Lead Data Engineer, or Enterprise Data Strategist in a consulting or corporate environment.
- Proven track record designing enterprise-grade cloud data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Deep expertise in data modeling methodology (Kimball dimensional modeling, Inmon, Data Vault, or Data Mesh principles).
- Hands-on mastery of modern cloud data warehousing technology (Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Redshift, or Google BigQuery).
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and strong experience with data pipeline tooling (Python, dbt, Apache Airflow).
- Solid knowledge of UK GDPR, data privacy regulations, and enterprise security frameworks.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to present complex technical architecture to non-technical business leaders.
Desirable
- Relevant Professional Certifications: TOGAF, Snowflake Certified SnowPro Architect, AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate/Specialty, or Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional.
- Experience with real-time data streaming architectures (Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Spark Streaming).
- Background supporting MLOps, AI/ML integration, or vector database architecture.
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Benefits
- Annual performance-based bonus
- Hybrid working model (3 days central London office / 2 days remote)
- 25 days annual leave plus UK bank holidays
- Enhanced pension scheme (up to 8% company match)
- Private medical and dental cover
