We are currently seeking a reliable, safety-focused Operational Support team member to assist with the safe movement of company vehicles on-site and contribute to the efficient running of the Transport Department
Key Responsibilities
Banksman & Vehicle Movement Support
- Guide vehicles safely on-site, including HGVs, 7.5T vehicles, vans, and shunters.
- Communicate clearly with drivers using approved hand signals and radio communication.
- Ensure all manoeuvres are completed safely and efficiently in line with company procedures.
- Monitor loading bays, parking areas, and vehicle waiting zones to prevent congestion or risks.
- Conduct daily yard checks to identify hazards, obstructions, or unsafe conditions.
- Assist with driver briefings and debriefings related to vehicle movements
- Report unsafe practices, hazards, or incidents promptly to the Transport Managers.
Administrative & Transport Support
- Assist with preparing transport documentation such as PODs, delivery sheets, route packs, and driver paperwork.
- Help maintain vehicle check records, defect logs, and service/maintenance trackers.
- Input transport data into internal systems (Excel, TMS, telematics).
- Support driver debrief checks (paperwork collection, mileage checks, basic compliance checks).
- Assist with filing, data organisation, and general administrative tasks.
Warehouse/Yard Coordination (Light Duties Only)
- Monitor transport consumables (PPE, straps, pallets, seals) and report low stock.
- Support communication between warehouse and transport teams regarding load readiness.
- Assist in keeping the yard organised, safe, and compliant at all times.
Continuous Improvement & General Support
- Identify and report safety improvements relating to vehicle movement or yard layout.
- Support team tasks during peak hours, helping wherever required.
- Participate in training to broaden knowledge of transport operations.
Key Skills
Essential
- Previous experience in a banksman/vehicle marshalling role (or willingness to be trained).
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to vehicle movement.
- Clear communication skills and confidence directing drivers.
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Proactive, hands-on approach with willingness to support varied operational tasks.
- Basic IT skills (email, Excel, digital forms)
Desirable
- Valid Banksman/Vehicle Marshal qualification (training can be provided).
- Experience within logistics, transport, warehousing, or yard operations.
- Familiarity with HGV operations, basic transport compliance, or TMS systems
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: Up to £27,000.00 per year
