ROLE: Grounds Maintenance Operative
HOURS: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours
LOCATION: MoD Corsham – SN3 9ET
Mitie are recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Operative assist in the day-to-day grounds maintenance across MOD Corsham to ensure the estate's external environments are safe, compliant, presentable, and resilient year‑round.
You will be a part of a small team of grounds operatives and contractors, uphold rigorous Health & Safety standards, deliver seasonal works, and support biodiversity and sustainability goals in a secure MOD setting
Main duties:
- Seasonal grounds tasks (grass cutting, strimming, edging, shrub and hedge maintenance, planting, leaf clearance, litter, snow/ice management, gritting, weed control, path sweeping, soft landscaping.
- Maintain sports and recreational areas, memorial garden, signage, car parks, and access/egress routes to agreed standards and KPIs.
- Conduct inspections of play areas, paths, fences, street furniture, bins, raise remedial works and track completion.
- Routine maintenance of grounds equipment (mowers, strimmers, vehicles, gritters, etc.)
- Ensure efficient use and safe storage of equipment, fuel, consumables, and PPE; maintain tool and plant
- Participation in the winter on call rota
What we are looking for:
- Experience working in landscaping teams on large or complex estates (secure/public sector or MOD highly desirable).
- Knowledge of H&S in grounds operations (RAMS, permits, COSHH, PUWER, manual handling, working at height).
- Desirable: certifications as applicable (e.g., PA1/PA6 pesticide application; chainsaw/brushcutter; abrasive wheels; MEWP / working at height).
- Full UK driving licence; able to operate grounds machinery and small plant (mowers, strimmers, blowers, chippers).
