Assembly Fitter
We are seeking a motivated, reliable and detail-oriented Assembly Fitter to join our trailer manufacturing team.
In this hands-on role, you will assemble and fit mechanical components and equipment used in the production of trailers. Working from technical drawings, build specifications and assembly instructions, you will ensure that all work is completed safely, accurately and to the required quality standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong practical and mechanical skills to develop their experience within a busy, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and fit mechanical parts and trailer components using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
- Work from technical drawings, diagrams, specifications, work orders and assembly instructions.
- Fit components such as axles, suspension systems, braking equipment, couplings, landing legs, mudguards and body fittings, as required.
- Drill, cut, grind, bolt and secure components accurately during the assembly process.
- Inspect parts and completed assemblies for defects, damage or inconsistencies.
- Ensure all finished work meets company quality standards and production specifications.
- Report defective materials, drawing discrepancies and production issues to the relevant supervisor.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, safe systems of work and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area.
- Work closely with colleagues across production to achieve daily manufacturing targets.
- Assist with resolving assembly problems and making adjustments where required.
- Complete production records and other documentation accurately in line with company procedures.
- Carry out other reasonable duties to support the manufacturing process.
Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Good mechanical knowledge and practical assembly skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications and measurements.
- Experience using hand tools, including spanners, screwdrivers, sockets, pliers and torque wrenches.
- Confidence using power tools and equipment required for assembly work.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good manual dexterity and practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work accurately both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication, reliability and timekeeping.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift and carry out repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- A strong awareness of workplace health and safety.
Desirable
- Previous experience in mechanical assembly, trailer manufacturing, vehicle building, engineering or a similar production environment.
- Experience fitting trailer, commercial vehicle or agricultural machinery components.
- Knowledge of braking, pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical systems.
- Experience working in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Relevant mechanical, engineering or manufacturing qualification.
- Forklift truck or overhead crane experience.
