What does a Studio Assistant do at WPP Production?
Reporting into the Studio Manager, the Studio Assistant will contribute to the smooth running of the Studio and the on-set experience. They are responsible for the technical operation of the studio environment, set readiness, set changes, and technical studio reset related to equipment and shooting. The Studio Assistants support the day-to-day operations of our studio facility, handling administrative duties, studio maintenance, and providing support to producers, artists, and crew. Key tasks include managing studio facilities, arranging travel, managing equipment, greeting guests, and ensuring sets are prepared for filming.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with booking and return of inventory, camera and lighting kit
- Technical setup and breakdown, build setup per shot list or DP/photographer direction
- Ensure the studio environment is kept clean, tidy and organised at all times
- Assisting the photographer/director/stylist and wider crew on set with set-builds, lighting, technical setups, preparing props, providing refreshments, and handling technical tasks like loading files
- Product readiness (technical preparation for shooting)
- Dismantle all setups and return to designated storage positions
- Strike sets at the end of each shoot, returning the studio to its base configuration, unless otherwise stated
- Maintain the studio space, including repainting the cove
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, setting up/breaking down equipment (cameras, lights), managing, and restocking studio consumables and inventory.
- Assist the Inventory Manager when directed
- Flag equipment faults and low consumables to kit coordinator
- Support with shoots, events and general studio maintenance
- Once trained, provide health & safety guidance on set, acting as a first aider when necessary
- The role often requires moving, lifting equipment, and standing for long periods
Requirements
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
- A problem-solving mindset, adaptable to dynamic production environments and unexpected challenges.
- Be proactive - Anticipate needs before being asked
- Basic knowledge of film, photography, props styling or studios is beneficial but not required
