Contract type: Fixed Term for 6 months
This position is available as a secondment opportunity for 6 months to existing permanent employees of Luton Council. If you are an external candidate, this role will be available as a fixed term for 6 months.

What you'll be doing
As our Business Support Team Lead, you'll lead and develop a team of Business Support Officers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused administrative services across the Directorate. You'll oversee day-to-day operations, manage workloads and performance, and support the wellbeing and development of your team to ensure an efficient and responsive service.
Working closely with senior managers, you'll coordinate a wide range of business support activities, including complex projects, meetings, confidential reports, recruitment administration, correspondence and complaints. You'll play a key role in ensuring administrative processes are delivered consistently, efficiently and in line with Council policies and procedures.
You'll also be responsible for financial administration, including procurement, budget monitoring, invoice reconciliation and grant administration, while using management information and performance data to identify trends, improve processes and support informed decision-making.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised leader who enjoys improving services, managing competing priorities and working collaboratively across teams. You'll use your judgement and problem-solving skills to manage complex enquiries, ensure compliance with corporate and legislative requirements, and help deliver an effective, high-performing business support function.
What we expect from you
You'll be an experienced business support professional with a proven track record of leading administrative teams in a busy, customer-focused environment. You'll have experience of supervising and developing staff, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality services.
You'll be highly organised, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, customers and partners. You'll be confident producing high-quality reports and correspondence, handling sensitive information and ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
You'll be comfortable using a range of IT systems and analysing performance data to identify trends, support decision-making and drive continuous improvement. Experience of monitoring performance, coordinating projects and managing risks will be an advantage.
You'll understand the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion and be committed to delivering an inclusive, customer-focused service.
You'll hold a Level 3 qualification in Business Administration (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience. You'll also be able to travel across the Borough as required, work flexibly to meet service needs and communicate effectively in spoken English in line with the role requirements.
