Skilled CNC Machinist – Programmer / Setter

Salary: From £35,000 per annum DOE

We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Machinist – Programmer / Setter to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Stoke-on-Trent.
This is a skilled position requiring someone who can confidently program, set and operate CNC machinery using Fanuc controls. You will be responsible for taking components from engineering drawings through programming and machine set-up to finished production.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set and operate CNC machinery using Fanuc controls.
- Read and interpret detailed engineering and technical drawings.
- Create, edit and optimise CNC programs.
- Set tooling, fixtures, workholding and machine offsets.
- Determine appropriate speeds, feeds and cutting parameters.
- Carry out machine set-ups for new and existing components.
- Complete first-off inspections before commencing production runs.
- Manufacture precision components to required specifications and tolerances.
- Use measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision inspection equipment.
- Monitor machining processes and make adjustments where required.
- Identify and resolve machining, tooling and quality issues.
- Ensure finished components meet required quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
- Carry out routine machine checks and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider engineering team.
Skills & Experience
To be considered for this position, you will need:
- Previous experience working as a CNC Programmer / Setter / Machinist.
- Experience programming and setting Fanuc controls is essential.
- Strong CNC programming and machine-setting experience.
- CNC milling and/or CNC turning experience.
- Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of machining processes, tooling, speeds and feeds.
- Experience manufacturing components to tight tolerances.
- Confident use of precision measuring equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues.
- Ability to work independently from drawing through to finished component.
- Good understanding of engineering quality and health & safety standards.
