Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGV Sweeper Vehicles/Class 2) to ensure optimal operational performance. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in mechanical systems, as well as experience with various tools and equipment. The position requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and repair, ensuring safety standards are consistently met.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of HGV Sweepers Vehicles, identifying faults and areas requiring repair or maintenance. We have a fleet of 15 vehicles, Daff, Volvo and Renualt
- Perform repairs using fabrication, welding, soldering, and basic electrical skills as necessary
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to carry out repairs and assembly tasks
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks including tyre replacements, brake servicing, and fluid checks
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company standards
- Document repair work accurately in accordance with company procedures
- Liaising with operations and the drivers directly
- Road-side assistance as and when needed
- Working with a qualified technical fitter assistant
- Liaising with suppliers, ordering parts
Qualifications
- Proven experience in heavy vehicle or machinery repair, preferably as an HGV Mechanic or similar role
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in equipment repair and maintenance
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, and basic electrical work
- Experience with assembly processes and the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment (own tools required)
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with operations and team members
- Driving license essential, HGV Class 2 license preferred.

Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
