About Encortec
Encortec is a University of Exeter spin-out developing self-powered IoT monitoring systems for critical infrastructure and industrial applications.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Experienced Embedded Software & IoT Engineer to help optimise and further develop our existing embedded platform.
The Role
Our core software platform is already developed. The main focus of this role is to improve the performance, reliability and energy efficiency of the existing system, particularly:
- LTE Cat-1 data throughput and communication performance
- OTA (Over-the-Air) firmware updates
- Power consumption and low-power operation
- STM32 firmware performance and optimisation
- Wireless communication reliability
You will work independently to identify bottlenecks, implement improvements and demonstrate measurable results with supports from our existing hardware and engineering team.
Essential Experience
We are looking for someone with proven commercial embedded product experience and strong practical problem-solving skills.
Essential:
- Strong STM32 and embedded C/C++ experience.
- Experience developing and optimising real embedded/IoT products.
- Proven experience with low-power embedded systems and power-consumption optimisation.
- Experience with cellular IoT / wireless communication.
- Strong hardware/software debugging and system-integration skills.
- Ability to work independently and solve complex engineering problems.
Highly Desirable
- LTE experience.
- OTA firmware development.
- Cellular modem and AT-command experience.
- Wi-Fi.
- RTOS.
- Communication/data-rate optimisation.
- Experience measuring and reducing energy consumption.
Energy-harvesting, power-electronics and PCB-design experience are not required. Encortec has separate expertise in these areas and works with an external PCB design and manufacturing partner.
The Person
We are looking for a practical problem solver and we particularly value engineers who can demonstrate measurable improvements to real products—for example, increasing data throughput, reducing power consumption or improving wireless reliability.
Regular on-site work in Exeter is required because the role involves hands-on work with prototype hardware and laboratory testing.
This part-time role may suit an experienced engineer, consultant or independent engineer who would like to contribute to an innovative technology company.
How to Apply
Please send your CV to [email protected], together with brief examples of:
- A commercial embedded/IoT product you have worked on.
- A difficult technical problem you have personally solved.
- An example of how you have improved data throughput, OTA capability or power consumption.
Please also indicate your availability for part-time work in Exeter.
