Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated self employed Piano Teacher to join our vibrant musical team. The ideal candidate will inspire students through the joy of music, fostering their creativity and musical skills. This role involves teaching piano to primary aged children. You will be working during school hours 8.30-4pm maximum per day, at various primary schools in the Maidstone area. Hours depend on how many children sign up but it will be the same for each 2 term period (eg. September - December, Jan - Easter etc). We currently have 3.5 days work, with the potential to grow to 5 days as new children sign up. The number of weeks is 33 per year. We will provide a timetable for each school so you would need to be at each school with ample time to start each day. The rate of pay is for teaching time only and doesn't include breaks or travel time between schools.
The job is due to start in September but there is the possibility of doing some trial days in the next few weeks.
Duties
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to the needs and abilities of students. You can use Piano teaching books if preferred.
- Be contactable by email and phone for timetable updates.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement.
- Prepare students for performances in the summer term and sometimes before Christmas.
- Create a positive learning environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, and respect for diverse musical styles.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements, which need to be emailed to us weekly.
Requirements
- A passion for encouraging children to develop their musical skills.
- Proficiency in playing the piano, ideally grade 8.
- Ideally be able to enter and progress children through piano grades should they wish to take them.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for teaching music.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
- You must be reliable and able to drive to each school as most are not on bus routes.
- You will need to undertake an enhanced DBS check which we can arrange for you.
