An opportunity has arisen to join an experienced and versatile team delivering a first-class lifeguard service to Armed Forces personnel, civilian staff, and their families. Based at HMS Raleigh, the successful candidate will provide confident and competent lifeguarding support at the swimming pool within the Sports and Recreation Centre. The role involves ensuring the safety and good conduct of all pool users in compliance with Normal Pool Operating Procedures, leading in emergency situations, monitoring pool usage, and maintaining a high standard of hygiene in the pool area and changing rooms. The post holder will also ensure equipment is used efficiently, maintain personal fitness levels to safely recover an adult from the pool, and carry out daily pool readings and water sampling while keeping accurate records to meet required quality standards. Additional duties may include supporting events and undertaking tasks as directed by the Line Manager.
The ideal candidate will be physically fit, well-organised, and confident, with strong communication skills and the ability to contribute at all levels. They will demonstrate professionalism, sound judgement, integrity, and a proactive approach, while remaining calm under pressure and responsive to changing business needs. Reliability, motivation, and a positive representation of Mitie's values are essential. Applicants must hold a valid RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, with experience in a similar role being desirable. A record of in-house lifeguard training, First Aid certification, and an IOSH Working Safely Certificate are advantageous. Strong organisational and motivational skills, customer-facing experience, IT literacy, and the ability to manage short-notice changes are also required, along with a good standard of education.
Candidates must meet MOD security clearance and DBS requirements, with UK residency criteria applicable for vetting purposes, and must have the right to work in the UK. The role operates on a 37.5-hour work week, Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:00, with the requirement to wear company-approved workwear and take leave during Navy leave periods.
