Night Shift Manager

Job Purpose
We are seeking a Night Shift Manager to lead our warehouse operation during the 22:00-06:00 shift. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the night operation, ensuring productivity targets are achieved, customer orders are dispatched accurately and on time, and all activities are carried out in line with company quality standards and health and safety requirements.
The Night Shift Manager will lead a team of Supervisors and Warehouse Operatives, ensuring effective communication, strong team engagement, and a culture of continuous improvement. Working closely with the Operations Support Manager and the wider management team, you will ensure a seamless transition between shifts and contribute to the overall success of the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day warehouse operation during the 22:00-06:00 night shift, ensuring productivity, quality, and service targets are consistently achieved.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of Supervisors and Warehouse Operatives, promoting high performance, accountability, and engagement.
- Ensure customer orders are picked, packed, and dispatched accurately and within agreed service levels.
- Maintain full compliance with health and safety policies, identifying and addressing risks promptly to create a safe working environment.
- Monitor individual and team performance, providing coaching, feedback, and support where required.
- Plan and manage labour resources effectively to meet operational demands while maintaining productivity and cost efficiency.
- Conduct effective shift handovers, ensuring clear communication of operational priorities, outstanding issues, and performance updates.
- Resolve operational challenges, including staffing issues, equipment failures, stock discrepancies, and process interruptions, minimising impact on service.
- Monitor, analyse, and report key operational performance metrics, including productivity, accuracy, and attendance.
- Support the onboarding and ongoing development of team members, ensuring adherence to operational procedures and company standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance operational performance.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the smooth running of the warehouse operation.
Key Requirements
- Previous experience in warehouse operations or shift management within a fast-paced distribution or logistics environment.
- Demonstrable leadership experience with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop teams.
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory control, and health and safety legislation.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), with knowledge of SNAP being advantageous.
- Flexibility to provide additional support across other shifts where business needs require.
