The Workshop-Based In-House Maintenance Engineer / Fabricator is responsible for carrying out preventative maintenance and fabrication work to support workshop operations. The role ensures machinery, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a safe and efficient condition while manufacturing bespoke metal components and supporting continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on workshop machinery and equipment.
- Fabricate metal components, frames, brackets, guards, and bespoke parts from engineering drawings or specifications.
- Perform cutting, drilling, grinding, Milling, Lathe work and welding operations (Both MIG & MMA) using workshop equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Manufacture and modify fixtures, jigs, tooling, and production aids.
- Install and commission new machinery, equipment, and fabricated items within the workshop.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance requirements and report any defects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and fabrication records.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
- Keep the workshop clean, organised, and well maintained.
- Monitor stock levels of materials, consumables, and spare parts & produce stock reports
- Work closely with production and workshop teams to support operational requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency.
Skills & Qualifications
- Engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, apprenticeship, or equivalent).
- Experience in fabrication and preventative maintenance within a workshop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Proficient in the safe use of fabrication equipment and hand tools.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
