Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Floor Layer to join our Responsive Repairs team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing a range of floor coverings to a high standard, with particular emphasis on safety vinyl and cap and cove flooring within wet rooms, bathrooms and other appropriate areas. The role includes removing existing floor coverings, preparing and repairing subfloors, renewing subbases where required, accurately measuring and fitting materials, and completing associated minor plumbing, carpentry, tiling and grouting works required to support the flooring installation. A DBS check is mandatory, and you must possess a full clean driving licence.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Install vinyl, safety flooring, carpet and laminate floor coverings to a high standard.
- Carry out cap and cove vinyl flooring installations, particularly within wet rooms and bathrooms.
- Remove existing floor coverings and prepare surfaces ready for new flooring installations.
- Inspect subfloors and carry out or arrange suitable preparation, including renewing the subbase where required.
- Carry out subfloor repairs and preparation to concrete, latex and timber subfloors to provide a suitable, level surface for flooring installation.
- Carry out basic plumbing associated with flooring installations, including removing and refitting toilets and wash hand basins (WHBs), and renewing or refitting level-access shower traps.
- Carry out basic carpentry required to complete flooring and wet room works, including boxing-in pipework and installing shower screens and shower doors.
- Carry out basic tiling and grouting repairs as required to complete the works to a suitable standard.
- Measure, cut and fit flooring accurately, minimising waste and ensuring a professional finish.
- Complete works within agreed timescales and report any additional works or defects identified.
- Keep tools and equipment clean, safe and in good working order.
- Maintain clean and tidy work areas and leave properties safe at the end of each working day.
- Comply with Health and Safety requirements, risk assessments and company procedures at all times.
- Communicate professionally with residents, colleagues and other trades and represent the Company positively.
Job skills:
- Strong practical floor-laying skills with good attention to detail and finish.
- Proven experience of cap and cove safety vinyl flooring installations.
- Good knowledge of floor preparation and subfloor requirements.
- Competent in the basic plumbing, carpentry, tiling and grouting tasks associated with wet room and flooring installations.
- Ability to measure, cut and install floor coverings accurately.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
- Able to work effectively on your own or as part of a team.
- Confident using the hand tools and power tools associated with floor laying.
- Professional and customer-focused approach when working in occupied properties.
Experience & Qualifications:
- At least 3 years practical experience in floor laying.
- Demonstrable experience installing safety vinyl and cap and cove flooring.
- Experience carrying out floor preparation and subfloor repairs within domestic or occupied properties.
- Relevant flooring or trade qualification preferred.
- Experience within social housing, repairs or property maintenance would be advantageous.
- Awareness of manual handling, ladder safety, working at height and abrasive wheels; training will be provided where required.
- Full clean driving licence required.
