J&P Civil Engineering is a fast-growing groundworks and civil engineering contractor delivering commercial, residential and infrastructure projects across the North West.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join our team.

The Role
Working alongside our Site Managers, Project Managers, Contracts Managers and Site Teams, you will be responsible for accurately setting out and supporting the successful delivery of multiple groundworks and civil engineering projects.
Typical works include:
- Roads and sewers
- Drainage installations
- Foundations and substructures
- Reinforced concrete works
- External works and hard landscaping
- Section 278 works
- Commercial developments
- Residential housing developments
Responsibilities
- Carry out all setting out duties using GPS and Total Station equipment.
- Establish and maintain site control.
- Produce and maintain accurate setting out records.
- Check levels, dimensions and coordinates against design information.
- Identify design discrepancies and communicate solutions.
- Liaise with Site Managers, Project Managers, subcontractors and clients.
- Ensure work is delivered safely and to the required specification.
- Assist with quality assurance inspections and as-built surveys.
- Maintain accurate site records and survey information.
- Support the commercial team with measurements where required.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience as a Setting Out Engineer within groundworks or civil engineering.
- Commercial and residential project experience.
- Competent using any Leica, Trimble or Topcon survey equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of drainage, roads, foundations and external works.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Desirable:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering.
- CSCS Card.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- First Aid qualification.
- AutoCAD experience.
- Experience using machine control systems.
