About Apex Specialist Education
Apex Specialist Education (ASE) is an independent specialist secondary school supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and additional barriers to learning.
We provide a nurturing, trauma-informed learning environment where every student is supported to develop academically, socially and emotionally. Through highly personalised education, we help young people build confidence, re-engage with learning and achieve recognised qualifications.
The Role
We are looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join our team at our Stockport site from September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a student with additional needs, helping them to access learning, build confidence and reach their full potential. Working closely with teaching staff and the wider school team, you will adapt your support to meet the student's individual educational, social and emotional needs throughout the school day.
The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and committed to making a positive difference in a young person's life. Previous experience working within a specialist school, alternative provision or a similar educational setting is essential. Experience supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a student throughout the school day.
- Support the student to engage positively with learning and school life.
- Build a positive, trusting and professional relationship with the student.
- Work closely with teachers to adapt learning and provide appropriate support within lessons.
- Implement individual learning, behaviour and support plans.
- Encourage independence while providing appropriate guidance and reassurance.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent, trauma-informed approaches.
- Support the student's emotional wellbeing, confidence and social development.
- Maintain accurate records where required and communicate effectively with the wider staff team.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working within a specialist school, alternative provision or a similar educational setting.
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people.
- A genuine passion for supporting students to achieve their potential.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable
- Knowledge or experience of supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- Understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed practice.
- Relevant Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification.
