Machine Operator - Fabric Rewind Production Machine
Position Title: Machine Operator - Production Department (Fabric Rewind Machine)
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Department: Production
Working Hours: 7am - 4.45pm Mon- Friday
Job Purpose
The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a fabric rewind machine used to slit, perforate, rewind, and convert large fabric rolls into finished products of various sheet sizes. The role includes machine setup, operation, routine maintenance, quality inspections, production record keeping, and ensuring that all finished products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
· Operate fabric rewind machinery safely and efficiently to achieve daily production targets.
· Load and unload large fabric rolls onto the machine.
· Feed fabric through slitting and perforating stations according to production specifications.
· Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments as required.
· Change gears and machine settings to achieve specified sheet lengths and product dimensions.
· Set up and adjust slitting blades and perforating equipment to meet product requirements.
· Minimise downtime by identifying and addressing minor operational issues.
Daily Machine Checks
· Complete daily machine start-up inspections before commencing production.
· Perform end-of-shift shut-down procedures and checks.
· Identify and report any mechanical faults, unusual noises, wear, or safety concerns.
· Ensure machine guards, safety devices, and emergency stops are functioning correctly.
Maintenance & Calibration
· Carry out routine lubrication of machine components in accordance with maintenance schedules.
· Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
· Complete calibration and setting checks to ensure accurate cutting and perforation dimensions.
· Report maintenance requirements to supervisors or maintenance personnel when required.
Quality Control
· Conduct regular in-process quality inspections throughout production runs.
· Check slit widths, sheet lengths, perforation quality, winding quality, and overall product appearance.
· Remove and report defective product or materials.
· Ensure finished products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
· Record quality check results as required.
Production Documentation
· Record fabric batch numbers and production information accurately.
· Complete production logs, quality records, and machine check sheets.
· Maintain traceability of materials and finished products.
· Report production performance, downtime, and waste figures when required.
Housekeeping & Safety
· Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area.
· Clean and dust machine components regularly to ensure optimal operation.
· Dispose of waste materials in accordance with company procedures.
· Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies.
· Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
· Participate in safety inspections and continuous improvement activities.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Previous experience operating production or manufacturing machinery.
· Ability to read and follow production specifications and work instructions.
· Good attention to detail and quality standards.
· Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to accurately complete production records and documentation.
· Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
· Experience operating rewind, converting, slitting, or perforating machinery.
· Experience within the textile, fabric, hygiene, or paper converting industries.
· Forklift licence (if applicable).
· Basic maintenance experience.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand for extended periods.
· Frequent lifting, handling, and movement of production materials.
· Ability to work safely around moving machinery.
· Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining quality standards.

Pay: £13.45 per hour
