About Stocks Golf Club
Set in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside near Aldbury, Stocks Golf Club is a private members’ golf club with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and a strong sense of community.
Our clubhouse is at the heart of the club, a place where members and their guests can relax after a round of golf, enjoy food and drinks, attend club functions, and celebrate special occasions.
We pride ourselves on providing warm, professional, and personal service, and we are now looking for an experienced Bar & Clubhouse Manager to lead our bar and front-of-house operation.
The Role
This is a hands-on management position for someone who enjoys being part of the day-to-day running of a busy clubhouse.
You will take ownership of the bar and front-of-house operation, leading the team by example and ensuring members, guests and visitors receive consistently high levels of service.
Working closely with our food, clubhouse and wider golf club teams, you will help create a smooth, professional and welcoming experience throughout the club.
No two days are quite the same. Alongside the day-to-day bar and dining operation, the clubhouse hosts everything from member events and meetings to dinners, functions and wedding receptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the bar and front-of-house areas.
- Lead, motivate, and support the bar and service team, creating a positive and professional working environment.
- Prepare and manage staff rotas, ensuring appropriate staffing levels across the week.
- Manage bar stock, including stock control, monitoring usage, placing orders, and planning ahead for busy periods, events, and functions.
- Maintain excellent relationships with suppliers and ensure stock is ordered efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Ensure members, guests, and visitors receive a consistently high standard of friendly and attentive service.
- Respond professionally and proactively to member requests, feedback, and individual requirements.
- Work closely with the kitchen, food service, clubhouse, and golf teams to ensure the smooth running of club operations.
- Help coordinate clubhouse functions and events, including meetings, club events, dinners, private functions, and wedding receptions.
- Meet and greet event organisers, and guests and ensure functions run smoothly from arrival through to completion.
- Maintain excellent presentation and cleanliness standards throughout the bar, dining room, and associated areas.
- Ensure licensing, food hygiene, health & safety, and relevant operational procedures are followed.
- Assist with till systems, bookings, event information, stock records, and other administrative duties.
- Deal confidently and professionally with any issues that arise during service.
- Lead from the front with a hands-on, positive, and flexible approach, someone who is happy to get involved wherever needed.
About You
We are looking for someone who is naturally welcoming, organised, and confident dealing with people.
You will ideally have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience within food and beverage management, bar management, assistant bar management, or a similar supervisory role.
- Experience managing and developing a small team.
- Strong knowledge of stock control, ordering, and forward planning.
- Excellent customer service skills and a genuine enjoyment of looking after members and guests.
- The ability to remain calm, organised, and professional during busy periods.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with different departments and members of the management team.
- Good computer skills and the ability to work with stock, till, rota, booking, and administrative systems.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- A smart and professional appearance.
- A reliable, flexible, and proactive approach.
- The ability to multitask and respond quickly to changing requirements.
- A positive, can-do attitude, with the willingness to lead by example and get involved in the day-to-day operation.
Desirable
- Personal Licence / relevant bar licensing qualification.
- Previous experience working within a golf club, private members’ club, hotel, or similar hospitality environment.
- Experience assisting with weddings, functions, or corporate events.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position working 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
During the summer months, the clubhouse operates between approximately 6:30am and 11:00pm, Monday to Sunday, so flexibility across these operating hours is essential.
Due to our countryside location and the nature of the working hours, your own transport is essential.
