Come and join our team
An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, flexible individual to join the Public Lighting team to support the Public Lighting Engineer in the overall management and delivery of the public lighting operational function across the County of Carmarthenshire.
As Public Lighting Electrician you will carry out installation, maintenance and repair work (including emergency repairs and power isolation) to street lighting, traffic signals and illuminated road signs on public highways throughout Carmarthenshire. This work involves working at height within the live carriageway and requires specific competencies in electrical standards, industry wide schemes & qualifications, electrical codes of practice, health and safety legislation and knowledge of temporary traffic management requirements. You will carry out electrical testing work in accordance with BS7671, issue test certificates, undertake diagnostic tests to trace and detect faults in electrical and electronic components in situ on the highway network. You will be required to undertake emergency works to isolate and make safe damaged apparatus following road traffic collisions to safeguard the public against electrocution, and will be required to participate in a standby rota to provide an emergency response outside normal working hours during the week and at weekends.
Applicants must possess detailed knowledge and qualifications in electrical standards and regulations, electrical installation, testing and inspection as set out in the essential criteria section of the job profile and gained specialist training in pole rescue techniques and MEWP access. You must have a comprehensive knowledge and working experience of health and safety regulations and practices and a thorough understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
You will possess good communication and organisational skills to ensure the service operates effectively and efficiently ensuring deadlines and targets are met.
