Talbot House Children's Charity are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Porter to support the kitchen team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen and dining service for staff and pupils at Talbot House Children’s Charity.
Job Summary
Responsibilities included preparing and cleaning the dining area and washing dishes before and after meal service, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene by assisting with general kitchen duties, and carrying out other reasonable tasks as requested by the Kitchen Manager and Kitchen Assistants to support the effective operation of the kitchen.
Main Duties include:
- Support the efficient day-to-day operation of the kitchen by washing dishes, kitchen equipment, and utensils, ensuring items are cleaned, stored safely, and readily available for service.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across kitchen and dining areas by cleaning work surfaces, tables, floors, service stations, equipment, and dining facilities in line with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
- Kept accurate cleaning records and follow food hygiene procedures, health and safety regulations, and internal kitchen policies at all times.
- Prepare and set up the dining area for meal service, clear and clean tables during and after service, and promptly dealt with spillages to maintain a safe environment.
- Assist with serving meals, preparing healthy school meals, packed lunches and buffets, as required.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, report faults promptly to the Kitchen Manager, and ensuring equipment is maintained in good working order.
- Promoting healthy eating and contribute to a positive, safe, and welcoming dining experience for staff and pupils while supporting the wider kitchen team.
Experience:
- Previous experience in a school kitchen, restaurant or hospitality environment is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.
- Familiarity with food preparation, cooking processes, or kitchen environments is desirable.
- Experience working in a fast-paced setting will be beneficial.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills are essential qualities for success in this role.
The role requires organisation, efficiency, and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Starting date is 1 September 2026, or as soon as possible, depending on your notice period.
Hours of work are: term time only, Monday to Friday, 9:15am to 1:30pm, with a 15 minute unpaid break.
