The School of Psychology and Behavioural Science is seeking a new Lecturer in Counselling; this is a permanent lecturer post within the school, offered on a part-time basis. The post will require the successful applicant to undertake teaching, assessment and related activities, primarily supporting both our Undergraduate BSc Psychology (Counselling) and our MSc in Counselling Courses. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in interdisciplinary scholarly activities to enhance the impact and profile of the faculty’s outputs.

About you
You will have an excellent educational background in Counselling, Psychology or a closely related discipline. A postgraduate qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy is essential to the post, and you will be expected to be registered or accredited as a counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling psychologist with a recognised professional body (such as the BACP). Expert knowledge of adult counselling is essential and previous experience of teaching in Further/Higher Education is a distinct advantage. You will have well developed written and verbal communication, time management and organisation skills and an effective approach to completing tasks. Good IT skills, including competence in using visual learning environments and remote teaching platforms is essential. A dedication to providing a personalised and supportive student learning experience is vital.
Qualifications
- Degree qualification or equivalent in relevant subject
- Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification in counselling and/or psychotherapy, or a relevant related subject
- To be registered or accredited as a counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling psychologist with a recognised counselling/psychotherapy professional body (such as BACP)
- Professional Recognition as HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale
- Doctorate in relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion
Faculty/Department
The School of Psychology and Behavioural Science at the University of Northampton is a large, collegiate and supportive department with a good culture of student focused teaching and high impact research. We deliver an extensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate awards and are in a period of growth. Our current portfolio consists of a suite of BPS accredited undergraduate and postgraduate conversion Psychology courses. Our strengths at postgraduate level lie in the areas of Counselling, Children and Young People and Child and Adolescent Mental Health. We also deliver a range of course for the NHS Children and Young People’s Talking Therapies, externally commissioned by the Department for Health and the Department for Education.
