West Sussex Alternative Provision College (WSAPC) is an educational establishment based across the county on seven separate sites, providing education for pupils whom are permanently excluded, at risk of exclusion or too ill to attend school.

We are seeking an exceptional and inspirational Science Subject Lead to lead and develop our Science curriculum across all provisions.
This is a middle leadership role combining high-quality classroom teaching with strategic curriculum leadership. You will play a key role in ensuring that Science education is inclusive, ambitious, and accessible, enabling pupils with SEND and additional needs to succeed and progress confidently.

Core Purpose
As Subject Lead, you will:
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous development of the Science curriculum
- Ensure alignment with the National Curriculum while adapting for individual needs
- Close gaps in learning caused by disrupted education and support successful transitions
- Champion inclusive, high-quality teaching and SEND practice across all settings
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons (KS3–KS4)
- Model Quality First Teaching and inclusive classroom practice
- Adapt teaching to meet complex SEND and SEMH needs
- Embed literacy, numeracy, and communication skills across Science learning
Curriculum Leadership
- Lead and develop a coherent, ambitious Science curriculum across all centres
- Ensure curriculum sequencing builds knowledge, skills, and cultural capital
- Monitor teaching quality through observations, work scrutiny, and data analysis
- Ensure pupils are well-prepared for examinations and qualifications
Strategic & Middle Leadership
- Contribute to whole-school improvement planning and priorities
- Act as a visible advocate for inclusive education and the Science subject
- Support mainstream schools where appropriate to improve curriculum accessibility
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and support Science staff across multiple centres
- Deliver subject-specific CPD and share best practice
- Contribute to recruitment, induction, and performance development
- Build strong collaboration across teams, including remote working environments
Assessment & Outcomes
- Analyse data to identify gaps, trends, and priorities for improvement
- Ensure accurate assessment and effective intervention strategies
- Oversee exam entries and ensure compliance with awarding body requirements
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
- Strong subject knowledge across Science disciplines
- Proven track record of high-quality teaching and pupil progress
- Experience supporting SEND / SEMH pupils
- Ability to lead, inspire, and develop others
Desirable
- Experience in curriculum leadership or subject responsibility
- Experience working in alternative provision
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and relational practice
