Location: Newport Pagnell
Job Type: Office-based
Company: RT Solar powered by OVO
Sector: Renewables / Solar PV / Battery Storage / Air Source Heat Pumps
This role is part-time 10-15 hours a week, to be agreed with the successful person.
RT Solar powered by OVO is a small but busy renewables company operating as a franchise of OVO. We deliver solar PV, battery storage, air source heat pump and associated electrical works across domestic, commercial and social housing settings.
As part of our continued growth, the business will ultimately transition towards operating as OVO South Midlands, supporting the delivery of high-quality renewable energy solutions across the region.
We are now looking for an experienced and highly organised Bookkeeper to join our friendly and welcoming team in Newport Pagnell. This is an important role within the business, responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping function and supporting accurate financial control across a fast-moving operational environment.
The successful candidate will be confident using Xero and Dext, with experience of CIS, VAT schemes, supplier accounts, subcontractor payments and reconciliations. We operate with detailed accounts and close cost monitoring, so excellent attention to detail is essential. Our accounts are reviewed regularly to monitor cost performance, job profitability and overall financial control.
Key Responsibilities
The role will include responsibility for the full bookkeeping function, including:
- Processing purchase invoices, sales invoices, receipts and payments.
- Managing and reconciling bank accounts, supplier accounts and customer accounts.
- Using Xero and Dext to process, code and manage financial transactions accurately.
- Supporting CIS processing, subcontractor deductions and related records.
- Supporting VAT preparation and ensuring transactions are correctly treated under the relevant VAT schemes.
- Chasing outstanding invoices and supporting credit control activity.
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice or payment queries.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records for subcontractors, suppliers and clients.
- Assisting with subcontractor onboarding alongside the wider team, including checking documentation and ensuring records are complete.
- Supporting the management of subcontractor accounts, payment records and compliance information.
- Monitoring job and project costs to support daily cost-performance reviews.
- Ensuring financial information is accurate, up to date and ready for internal review.
- Liaising with internal teams to resolve queries and support efficient financial administration.
- Supporting general office administration where required.
- Be able to work confidentially where required, given access to Company and Director financial information.
About You
We are looking for someone who is reliable, accurate and proactive, with strong bookkeeping experience and the confidence to take ownership of the day-to-day accounts process. If you don't have everything we are looking for, please do still apply.
You should have:
- Strong experience in bookkeeping or accounts administration.
- Good working knowledge of Xero.
- Experience using Dext or similar invoice-processing software.
- Understanding of CIS requirements.
- Knowledge of VAT processes and VAT schemes.
- Able to journal payments including understanding PAYE and deductions
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy workload.
- Confidence chasing invoices and resolving account queries.
- A practical, hands-on approach.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues, suppliers, clients and subcontractors.
- A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider team when needed.
Experience within construction, renewables, electrical contracting, property maintenance or a subcontractor-heavy environment would be beneficial, but is not essential if you have strong bookkeeping experience and are confident with Xero, Dext, CIS and VAT.
