We are seeking a professional, capable and commercially minded Finance Manager to join a large, progressive farming business. This is a varied and hands-on role, suited to an AAT-qualified finance professional who is confident managing day-to-day bookkeeping while also providing meaningful financial analysis, management information and clear reporting to senior management and the Board.
The Role
The Finance Manager will take responsibility for the smooth running of the finance function across a diverse farming operation. The position will involve maintaining accurate financial records, preparing timely management accounts, monitoring cash flow and supporting the owners and Board with reliable financial information to inform commercial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting records for the business.
· Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank reconciliations, supplier payments and credit control.
· Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with relevant financial and tax reporting requirements.
· Support the Managing Director with live financial data as required, and integrate into the wider office team and processes.
· Produce monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash flow reports.
· Analyse financial performance across enterprises.
· Provide clear reporting and commentary to management and the Board.
· Support year-end accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants, auditors, and professional advisers.
· Maintain and improve accounting systems, processes and internal controls.
About You
· AAT qualified, or suitably part-qualified with strong practical experience.
· Experienced in bookkeeping and VAT returns.
· Confident analysing figures and presenting financial information in a clear, practical and commercially useful way.
· Highly organised, accurate and able to manage deadlines.
· Comfortable working in a hands-on finance role within an owner-managed family business environment.
· Experience in agriculture, estates, food production or a rural business would be advantageous, although not essential.
· Strong working knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
· An open mind to change and a strong team ethic.
· A proactive, discreet and professional approach, with the confidence to work closely with senior management and external advisers.
