We are an independent, family-run builders’ merchant and DIY store that has proudly served the local community for many years. We are known for our wide range of products and our commitment to providing excellent customer service.
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Sales & Timber Yard Assistant to join our friendly team. This is a varied, hands-on role involving customer service, timber and sheet material cutting, stock control and general day-to-day duties to help keep the business running smoothly.
No previous experience in builders’ merchants, timber or DIY is required. If you have the right attitude and a willingness to learn, we will provide full training.
Key Responsibilities
· Providing friendly and helpful customer service, assisting customers with purchases and enquiries using our computerised point of sale system.
· Cutting timber and sheet materials to customer requirements.
· Loading and unloading deliveries safely, using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
· Assisting with stock replenishment, merchandising and placing orders with suppliers.
· Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
· Working closely with colleagues as part of a small team.
· Undertaking general duties as required to support the day-to-day running of the business.
· Operating a forklift truck following appropriate training and certification.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
· Friendly and approachable with good communication skills.
· Basic maths skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to learn new procedures and systems.
· Positive, reliable and willing to get involved in all aspects of the business.
· Proactive and able to use your own initiative.
· Comfortable working in a physically active role, including being on your feet for much of the day and safely lifting and moving stock.
· Full UK driving licence.
· Ability to satisfy the requirements of the company’s commercial vehicle insurance policy.
Desirable
· Previous experience in retail, customer service or a builders’ merchant environment.
· Forklift truck experience (training will be provided if required).

Hours of Work
- Tuesday to Friday: 7.30am – 5.00pm (including a 45-minute unpaid lunch break)
- Saturday: 8.00am – 1.00pm
Total contracted hours: 40 hours per week.
Salary
From £12.71 per hour (equivalent to approximately £26,440 per annum based on contracted hours).
