Job Specification: Bakery Shop Assistant/Barista - Multi-Site
About Us: Pettigrew Bakeries are an award winning, community-focused artisan bakery with 5 sites across Cardiff. We are passionate about the best sourdough, viennoiserie, coffee and service, and aim to create a dynamic and friendly place of work.
Reports To: Site Supervisor
Job Purpose: To deliver excellent customer service, ensure smooth day-to-day operations, efficiently prepare and serve food and beverages, and contribute to the maintenance of a clean and effective shop operation, supporting the overall success of the bakery.
Working Conditions:
- Flexible working hours, including availability for weekends. Typically core hours working 7.00am-16.30pm, Part Time - 2/3 days a week, Full Time 4/5 days a week.
- Requirement to stand for extended periods.
- Physical capability to lift and carry items as needed.
- You may be required to work at other bakery sites, or markets, on occasion within the Cardiff area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Engagement:
- Greet and serve customers with courtesy and efficiency.
- Accurately take and process customer orders at the counter.
- Provide knowledgeable information regarding our products, for which training will be provided.
- Create and maintain a positive working environment, high energy and enthusiasm positively encouraged.
- Food and Beverage Preparation:
- Prepare and serve coffee to the highest standard, we are seeking an individual with exceptional coffee skills and passion, ideally SCA Intermediate qualification or equivalent.
- Prepare and serve bakery items, pastries, and light meals according to our exacting standards.
- Ensure all food preparation and presentation adheres to our quality guidelines.
- Maintain strict adherence to food hygiene and safety regulations, including HACCP principles.
- Operational Support:
- Operate the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently for processing transactions.
- Maintain a clean and well-organised shop environment, including customer areas, counters, and equipment.
- Manage stock levels and restocking as required.
- Support opening and closing procedures in accordance with guidelines.
- Undertake cleaning duties, including dishwashing and equipment maintenance.
- Assist with the effective display of bakery products.
- Team Contribution:
- Work collaboratively and effectively within the team and comfortable working solo.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with colleagues and Managers.
- Provide assistance to other team members as needed.
Person Specification:
- Essential:
- Proven excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive and proactive work ethic.
- A commitment to learning and development.
- A genuine interest in high-quality food and beverage
- Specialty coffee experience.
- A solid understanding of HACCP principles and practical experience in maintaining high food hygiene standards.
- Desirable:
- Barista SCA Intermediate Certification.
- Proficiency in the Welsh language.
- Full Drivers License and willing to drive a small work van on occasion.
- Previous experience in an artisan Bakery or food service role.
- Formal Food Hygiene certification.
- Knowledge of artisan bread and pastry production.
