Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Remedial Ductwork Engineer to join our team, delivering specialist remedial works across commercial, residential, and public-sector properties.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for carrying out and overseeing remedial works involving ventilation ductwork, fire and smoke dampers, access arrangements, and compartmentation. Working alongside Assistant Engineers and subcontractors where required, you will ensure all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with current industry standards and fire safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of remedial projects involving ventilation ductwork, fire dampers, smoke dampers, and associated passive fire protection systems.
- Repair, modify, or replace damaged ductwork sections to restore compliance and system performance.
- Install access panels to facilitate future inspection, testing, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Carry out repairs, replacements, and adjustments to fire and smoke dampers in accordance with manufacturer guidance and industry standards.
- Identify and rectify installation defects, access issues, and compliance concerns.
- Reinstate fire compartmentation around ductwork penetrations using approved passive fire protection products and methods.
- Interpret survey reports, technical drawings, and remedial schedules to plan and deliver works effectively.
- Organise labour, materials, tools, plant, and access equipment to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Supervise, mentor, and support Assistant Engineers and subcontractors where required.
- Conduct quality inspections and final checks before project handover.
- Produce accurate reports, photographic records, and compliance documentation using digital reporting systems.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site managers, contractors, and internal compliance teams.
- Follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), company procedures, and all relevant health and safety legislation.
- Participate in the company call-out rota where required.
QualificationsEssential
- Proven experience in ductwork, HVAC, ventilation systems, or fire damper remedial works.
- Practical fabrication, installation, or mechanical fitting experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Knowledge of DW144 and/or DW145 standards.
- Fire damper inspection and remedial training.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme).
- IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
- Confined Space training.
- Asbestos Awareness certification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong technical knowledge of ventilation systems, ductwork fabrication, fire and smoke dampers, and associated compliance requirements.
- Experience interpreting technical drawings, survey reports, and remedial schedules.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, mentor, and coordinate site teams effectively.
- Excellent practical problem-solving abilities and confidence making technical decisions on site.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant workmanship.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work within construction and engineering environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional client-facing approach.
- Competence using tablets, mobile devices, and digital reporting systems for recording works and compliance evidence.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan workloads, manage resources, and deliver projects within agreed timescales.
