About Parkhill Dental
Parkhill Dental is an established mixed NHS and private dental practice in Torquay, with a growing private and referral base, a strong clinical team and ambitious plans for the future.
We believe that the business deserves the same quality of leadership, organisation and attention to detail as the dentistry we provide.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced manager to lead the day-to-day business operation of the practice and turn our agreed plans into consistent results.
You will lead through an established management structure that includes responsibility for compliance, the nursing team, treatment co-ordination and reception. Your role will be to set expectations, monitor performance, develop the people responsible for each area and make sure agreed actions are completed.
This is a senior operational leadership role with genuine authority within clearly agreed boundaries. You will work directly with the Principal and an external dental business coach.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, supporting and developing the practice team leads through structured meetings, objectives and scorecards
- Managing the reception team and maintaining excellent telephone, diary and patient-service standards
- Maintaining a reliable performance dashboard covering enquiries, new patients, consultation conversion, treatment uptake, diary utilisation and patient experience
- Monitoring NHS contract performance and UDA delivery
- Working with the compliance lead to maintain CQC readiness, identify risks and make sure agreed actions are completed
- Leading recruitment, induction, appraisal, absence and performance-management processes
- Preparing clear management information, identifying variances and recommending corrective action
- Providing accurate payroll, payment-run and cash-requirement information for approval and processing by authorised colleagues
- Implementing the annual business plan and reporting progress, risks and recommendations to the Principal
- Improving systems, accountability and communication across the practice
About you
We are looking for someone who is ambitious, humble and good with people.
You will need:
- Management experience that includes responsibility for people and business performance
- Evidence of improving revenue, utilisation, conversion, customer experience, efficiency or retention
- Confidence working with KPIs, dashboards and management information
- The ability to hold people accountable in a clear, fair and constructive manner
- The discipline to succeed through a team rather than becoming the person who does everything
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- The confidence to bring recommendations to the Principal, not simply report problems
Dental experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from experienced managers in healthcare, hospitality, retail and other regulated or premium-service environments.
Knowledge of CQC requirements or NHS dental contracts would be helpful, but the ability and willingness to learn quickly are more important.
What we offer
- A well-established and well-invested practice
- A clearly defined management structure
- Meaningful authority and direct access to the Principal
- Support from an external dental business coach
- The opportunity to influence the growth and development of the practice
- A role in which your leadership and commercial contribution will be visible and valued
