Electrical Technician
Location: Portsmouth
Denholm Industrial Services are recruiting an experienced Electrical Technician on behalf of a leading specialist contractor operating within the industrial blasting and coatings sector.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business where you'll play a key role in maintaining the electrical integrity, safety and reliability of specialist plant and equipment used across complex industrial operations. Working closely with operational teams, you'll ensure equipment remains compliant, available and fit for purpose while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
The Role
As an Electrical Technician, you'll be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, fault finding, repair and testing of electrical plant, equipment and temporary electrical systems supporting blasting and coatings operations.
Working alongside Operations, Asset Management and Maintenance teams, you'll help deliver safe, reliable and efficient operations while ensuring compliance with current legislation and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, inspections and repairs on electrical plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify electrical faults on blasting, coating, extraction and ventilation systems.
- Inspect, maintain and test temporary power distribution systems, transformers, extension leads and site electrical infrastructure.
- Maintain compressors, air treatment systems, motors, control panels, starters, inverters and associated electrical equipment.
- Support the maintenance and calibration of environmental monitoring and process control equipment.
- Assist with the installation, commissioning and decommissioning of new plant and equipment.
- Complete inspection, testing and maintenance records accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
- Support PUWER compliance and ensure equipment remains compliant with statutory requirements.
- Manage Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) programmes where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety and operational performance.
- Provide technical support to operational teams and assist with continuous improvement projects.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in maintaining high engineering standards and has experience working within demanding industrial environments.
Essential Skills & Experience
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- Proven experience as an Electrical Technician or Industrial Electrician.
- Strong fault-finding skills on industrial electrical systems.
- Experience working with motors, control panels, power distribution systems and electrical protection devices.
- Good understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations, PUWER and relevant British Standards.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification.
- Experience within industrial blasting, protective coatings, manufacturing, construction or heavy engineering environments.
- Experience supporting ISO management systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
