Job Description
As a Layout Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating layouts for outage-related equipment, tooling, and temporary installations to support maintenance and operational activities.
Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project teams, you will ensure equipment arrangements are practical, safe, and optimised for efficient outage execution.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate layout designs for outage and maintenance equipment.

Produce equipment arrangement solutions that support plant operations, maintenance, and shutdown activities.

Assess access, lifting, handling, installation, and maintenance requirements within existing facilities.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure layout designs meet operational and project requirements.

Support planning for temporary equipment, tooling, maintenance activities, and outage logistics.

Review engineering documentation, plant drawings, and site requirements to develop practical layout solutions.

Participate in design reviews, stakeholder meetings, and technical workshops.

Identify design constraints, risks, and opportunities for layout optimisation.

Ensure layouts comply with applicable safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Support project delivery from concept through implementation and commissioning phases.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Strong mechanical design background focused on:

Mechanical equipment

Mechanical handling systems
-
Plant operations and maintenance tooling
-
Experience developing equipment layouts within complex industrial facilities.

Proven ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and disciplines.

Strong understanding of maintenance and outage planning requirements.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Ability to balance technical requirements, operational constraints, and project objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience supporting plant outages, shutdowns, or major maintenance programmes.

Knowledge of lifting and handling operations.

Familiarity with plant access and maintainability assessments.
