Head of Finance & Compliance Manager

About the Role
The Charles Coleman LLP is seeking a Head of Finance & Compliance Manager to lead our financial operations and ensure regulatory compliance. This role is central to maintaining financial accuracy, strengthening client relationships, and safeguarding the firm’s adherence to legal and professional standards. You will act as the financial coordinator across the business, overseeing billing, reporting, compliance, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Manage the full billing cycle, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing
- Monitor payments and proactively follow up on outstanding balances
- Maintain precise financial transaction records
- Strengthen fee earner–client relationships through transparent financial communication
Financial Reporting
- Provide clear insight into the firm’s financial health
- Produce reports that support strategic decision-making
- Ensure compliance with legal accounting standards
General Accounting Duties
- Supervision and monitoring of the accounts function
- Monitor income, expenditure, and budget adherence
- Post monthly journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll)
- Process VAT returns
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Manage payroll processing and PAYE/NI payments
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Manage SAR audits and liaise with banks and HMRC
- Support senior management with financial analysis and respond to partner/staff queries
Compliance & Risk Management
- Assist with compliance across SRA rules, GDPR, AML, COFA and other regulatory frameworks
- Manage professional indemnity insurance and other firm-wide policies
- Act as the primary contact for audits and regulatory reviews
- Support fee earners with client onboarding and KYC processes
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Strong experience in legal finance or professional services
- Deep understanding of compliance frameworks (SRA, AML, GDPR)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- High attention to detail and a proactive approach
- Ability to work independently and confidently advise senior leadership
Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
