Homeless Project Worker
Rough Sleeping Support Service, Kingsway House, Portsmouth
40 hours per week, Permanent, 8:00am – 8:00pm
Working Pattern: 3 days on / 3 days off rota (inc. weekends and bank holidays)
Salary scale: 22-23 (£28,132 – £28,961 per annum) (pro rata of £26,023 – £26,789 per annum FTE, plus unsocial premium)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Charity and Housing Association. The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and compassionate Homeless Project Worker to join our hostel-based team and support individuals experiencing homelessness. This is a frontline role focused on providing practical support, promoting independence, and helping people move towards stable accommodation and improved wellbeing.
Who We're Looking For
You must have experience of or interest in:
- Experience working with vulnerable adults, homelessness, or related support services is desirable
- A genuine commitment to equality, inclusion, and trauma-informed practice
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic IT skills for record keeping and reporting
- Willingness to work a rota that includes nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Essential Skills and Qualities
To be successful in this role the key responsibilities will be to:
- Manage your own caseload, providing day-to-day support to people experiencing homelessness in line with support plans
- Build positive, professional relationships based on trust, respect, and clear boundaries
- Support service users with housing options, benefits, health appointments, and life skills
- Carry out risk assessments and contribute to safeguarding procedures
- Maintain accurate records, support notes, and reports
- Work collaboratively with partner agencies including housing providers, health services, and local authorities
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment within the project
