Elements Care Services is recruiting caring, resilient and reliable Waking Night Support Workers to join our children’s residential care home in Shipley.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who may have experienced trauma and require consistent, nurturing and safeguarding-focused care. You will play a vital role in ensuring that young people feel safe, supported and listened to throughout the night.
Please note: this is a waking-night position, not a sleep-in role.
Job description
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will:
- Provide safe, attentive and child-centred care throughout the night.
- Carry out welfare checks and observations in line with individual care plans and risk assessments.
- Support young people who are awake, unsettled, anxious or distressed.
- Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, safeguarding concerns and behaviours that challenge.
- Follow safeguarding policies and report concerns immediately to the appropriate manager or on-call service.
- Maintain clear and accurate night logs, handover notes, incident reports and daily records.
- Complete health-and-safety, environmental and domestic checks to maintain a safe and homely environment.
- Work closely with colleagues and provide a detailed handover to the day team.
- Promote positive relationships, appropriate boundaries, dignity and respect for each young person.

Person specification
We are looking for someone who is caring, dependable, emotionally resilient and able to remain alert and professional throughout a waking-night shift.
You will ideally have:
- Experience supporting children and young people in residential care, education, youth work, mental-health services, secure care or another relevant care setting.
- An understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- The confidence to respond safely and calmly in challenging situations.
- Good communication, teamwork and written-recording skills.
- A child-centred and trauma-informed approach to care.
- Availability to work waking nights, including weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications
- A Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare, or equivalent recognised qualification, is desirable.
- Applicants who are working towards Level 3, or who are willing to undertake it within the required timeframe, are encouraged to apply.
- Previous experience in children’s residential care is desirable; strong transferable experience will also be considered.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
Applicants must be aged 21 or over due to the nature of the role and requirements for working in a children’s residential care home.
