About Mexgrocer
Mexgrocer is a leading UK importer and distributor of authentic Mexican food and drink, supplying retailers, wholesalers, restaurants and consumers throughout the UK.
We are looking for a Packaging Compliance Officer to take responsibility for packaging-related regulatory requirements across Mexgrocer Limited and Mex Tortilla Limited, primarily covering Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
The role will cover packaging associated with both our imported and distributed product range and our UK tortilla manufacturing operation, giving the successful candidate responsibility for packaging compliance across different areas of the businesses.
This is a part-time position suited to someone who is organised, confident working with data and regulations, and able to take ownership of an important area of business compliance.
The Role
You will manage and maintain the information required to ensure Mexgrocer meets its UK and relevant European packaging compliance obligations.
A significant part of the role will involve collecting packaging information from suppliers, maintaining accurate product and packaging records, checking data and preparing information for regulatory reporting.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage records and reporting requirements for UK Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT).
- Maintain packaging data required for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
- Support compliance with relevant PPWR requirements.
- Maintain an accurate packaging compliance database across our product range.
- Obtain packaging specifications and information from suppliers.
- Record packaging materials, individual component weights, recycled content and other required information.
- Classify primary, secondary and transit packaging correctly.
- Review new products and packaging to identify applicable compliance requirements.
- Check and reconcile packaging information against purchasing and import data.
- Maintain supporting documentation and evidence for regulatory reporting and audits.
- Prepare information required for PPT and EPR submissions.
- Monitor submission deadlines and ensure required information is available on time.
- Contact and follow up with suppliers where information is incomplete or unclear.
- Monitor changes to packaging legislation and identify changes that may affect the business.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, compliance schemes and external advisers where required.
- Produce compliance information and reports for management.
- Support other relevant compliance and document-control activities when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is methodical, organised and comfortable taking responsibility for detailed compliance information.
You should have:
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good Excel and general IT skills.
- Confidence working with spreadsheets and large amounts of data.
- Good numerical ability.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Ability to research and understand regulatory guidance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence contacting suppliers and following up for information.
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
- A logical and methodical approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Previous experience with EPR, Plastic Packaging Tax, packaging compliance, environmental compliance or regulatory administration would be an advantage.
Experience within food importing, distribution, manufacturing, FMCG or packaging would also be beneficial.
Full knowledge of PPT, EPR and PPWR is not essential from day one, but applicants must be comfortable learning and applying regulatory requirements and taking ownership of the processes once trained.
Hours & Pay
20 hours per week
The exact working pattern can be discussed, although the role will primarily be worked Monday to Friday during normal office hours.
£15.00 per hour
Equivalent to £15,600 per annum based on 20 hours per week.

This is an office-based position at Mexgrocer Limited, Luton.
