Account Manager – Revenue & Benefits

Contract: Temporary Contract
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: £15.11 – £16.66 per hour
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Account Manager – Revenue & Benefits to join a Local Authority’s Revenues and Benefits Service, working within the Council Tax Unit.
The successful candidate will provide specialist support on an upcoming HMRC Data Matching Project, as well as investigating and resolving complex Council Tax casework.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, maintain and update Council Tax accounts using MRI (Academy).
- Analyse and validate information received from HMRC and other data sources.
- Identify discrepancies and carry out detailed account investigations.
- Process Council Tax amendments and ensure records are accurate and up to date.
- Support Council Tax billing and recovery activity, including attachments of earnings.
- Investigate complex and sensitive cases, including matters escalated through the Council’s formal complaints process.
- Review account histories, assess evidence and interpret relevant legislation and Council policies.
- Prepare detailed written responses to complaints and enquiries from customers, councillors, MPs, legal representatives and other stakeholders.
- Provide information and evidence for Ombudsman investigations and Valuation Tribunal proceedings, where required.
- Use NEC Document Management (EDMS) to retrieve, review, index and manage electronic records.
- Ensure all decisions and actions comply with Council Tax legislation, data protection requirements and corporate procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working within a Council Tax / Revenues and Benefits environment.
- Strong experience using MRI (Academy) for Council Tax administration.
- Experience of Council Tax billing, recovery and account maintenance.
- Experience processing attachments of earnings and other recovery activity.
- Experience investigating complex Council Tax cases and discrepancies.
- Good understanding of Council Tax legislation, policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to deal confidently with sensitive and complex complaints and enquiries.
Desirable
- Previous experience using NEC Document Management (EDMS).
- Experience dealing with HMRC data matching or similar data validation projects.
- Experience preparing information for Ombudsman or Valuation Tribunal cases.
