Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager to support the Engineering Managers in the day-to-day technical management of our vessel fleet.
Reporting to the Technical Director and working closely with Engineering Managers, Fleet Engineers, Operations Managers and vessel crews, you will assist with maintenance planning, defect resolution, spare parts management and contractor coordination to help maintain a safe, reliable and efficient fleet.
This role is ideal for someone with a marine, mechanical, electrical or maintenance background looking to progress into a fleet engineering management position.
The role will be primarily based in our Tendring, Essex office, with occasional travel to vessels throughout Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Support
- Assist Engineering Managers with the resolution of vessel defects and breakdowns.
- Liaise with vessel crews to gather technical information and troubleshoot issues.
- Support Fleet Engineers with technical documentation and work planning.
- Obtain quotations and source replacement parts for the Purchasing Department.
- Assist in coordinating contractors and service providers.
- Monitor maintenance schedules and follow up on outstanding actions.
- Attend vessels and shipyards as required to support maintenance activities.
Maintenance Planning
- Assist with planning routine maintenance and overhaul activities.
- Help prepare work scopes for yard periods and major repairs.
- Maintain records of equipment history and maintenance activities.
- Support the monitoring of critical spare parts and inventory requirements.
Administration & Compliance
- Update engineering databases and maintenance records.
- Assist with root cause investigations following equipment failures.
- Help develop and maintain engineering procedures and documentation.
- Support compliance with company EH&S requirements.
- Produce reports and summaries for Engineering Managers as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Engineering qualification (Marine, Mechanical, Electrical or similar) or relevant maintenance experience.
- Good understanding of machinery maintenance principles.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel at short notice and stay away from home when required.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in marine engineering or vessel operations.
- Experience coordinating maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of planned maintenance systems.
- Experience working with contractors and suppliers.
- Understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems or marine equipment.

Pay: £25,581.98-£35,000.00 per year
