Role Purpose
The Network Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the company's network transport activities across the Rogerstone and Cheltenham depots. The role ensures the efficient, safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of transport services while maintaining high standards of customer service, fleet management, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day transport operations across the Rogerstone and Cheltenham depots.
- Monitor operational performance and proactively resolve issues to maintain service levels.
- Manage daily operational exceptions, investigating root causes and implementing preventative measures.
Network Performance
- Ensure the business maintains a positive position within the Palletways Bonus Malus Scheme by actively monitoring and managing network performance.
- Ensure the business maintains a positive position within the UPN network expectations by actively monitoring and managing network performance.
- Monitor all network exceptions and ensure timely corrective action is taken.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Fleet & Resource Management
- Coordinate the allocation of vehicles, trailers, and transport resources to meet operational requirements.
- Liaise with internal departments to secure additional fleet resources or make surplus assets available where appropriate.
- Ensure all company vehicles are maintained in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition.
- Plan vehicle servicing, MOTs, and maintenance schedules to maximise fleet availability.
Driver & Staff Management
- Manage driver rotas, annual leave, sickness, and resource availability.
- Ensure drivers are correctly equipped with uniforms and required PPE.
- Conduct driver investigations and disciplinary meetings in conjunction with Compliance and HR where required.
- Support recruitment, induction, and ongoing training and development of operational staff.
- Monitor compliance with company mobile phone policies.
- Promote high standards of professionalism, housekeeping, and presentation across operational teams and office environments.
Compliance & Safety
- Oversee the reporting and investigation of vehicle accidents and incidents.
- Capture, investigate, and control vehicle and freight damage, implementing measures to reduce future occurrences.
- Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, company policies, and health and safety requirements.
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Identify and deliver cost-saving initiatives across fuel consumption, vehicle hire, agency labour, maintenance, repairs, and damages.
- Support the accuracy of vehicle profitability reporting, operational margins, and departmental P&L performance.
- Monitor operational costs and recommend efficiency improvements.
Leadership & Communication
- Attend management meetings as required and represent the transport function in the absence of senior management.
- Work collaboratively with planners, compliance, warehouse, and other departments to ensure seamless operational performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the transport team, fostering a positive and accountable working environment.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in transport or network operations management.
- Strong knowledge of transport planning, fleet operations, and logistics.
- Excellent understanding of compliance, driver management, and health and safety requirements.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing operational costs and budgets.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
