About the Role:
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Cook / Kitchen Porter to join our busy city-centre pub kitchen team. This is a hands-on role that combines food preparation and cooking duties with essential kitchen support tasks. You will help deliver high-quality, consistent food in a fast-paced environment while keeping the kitchen clean, organised and running smoothly.
The ideal candidate is flexible, takes pride in their work, and thrives in a lively, high-volume setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook menu items to the required standard and presentation, following recipes and portion controls
- Assist with food prep and supporting the chefs during service
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health & safety, and kitchen cleanliness at all times
- Wash dishes, pots, pans and kitchen equipment promptly and efficiently
- Keep preparation areas, fridges, freezers and dry stores clean, tidy and well-stocked
- Receive and check deliveries, rotate stock and report any issues
- Help with basic food storage, labelling and temperature monitoring
- Support deep cleans and end-of-shift kitchen reset
- Work as part of a team to ensure smooth, timely service during busy periods
- Follow all company policies, allergen procedures and food safety guidelines
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment (pub, restaurant or similar) preferred; training can be provided for the right person
- Basic food hygiene knowledge (Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate desirable or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy, fast-paced kitchen
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organisation and food safety
- Flexible approach to shifts, including evenings, weekends and busy periods
- Good teamwork and communication skills
Hours:
Variable shifts across the week, including weekends. Flexibility is essential to cover the busy city-centre trade.
