Axcis Education is recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH academy in Salisbury. This full-time Teaching Assistant role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their experience within special educational needs and disabilities education.
The setting supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism and social, emotional and mental health needs. The school takes a personalised approach to education, helping pupils develop academically while also building communication, confidence, independence, emotional regulation and practical life skills.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide hands-on support throughout the school day, helping pupils access lessons and participate in activities that are tailored to their individual needs. This Teaching Assistant position would suit someone who is caring, patient, resilient and passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils with special educational needs across the school day
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support within lessons and activities
- Helping pupils with autism and SEMH needs engage with education
- Supporting communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop confidence
- Assisting teachers with classroom activities and personalised learning
- Supporting pupils with practical, vocational and life skills
- Building positive and trusting relationships with children and young people
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and other members of the support team
- Helping create a safe, structured and inclusive environment for learning
Requirements:
- Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, autism, SEMH or additional needs
- May have experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, or similar role
- Can adapt their approach to meet different learning and communication needs
- Can build strong professional relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Is committed to supporting both educational progress and personal development
