Why apply for this role?
- This is a part-time flexible role, based across Newcastle, Gateshead, North and South Shields with evening and weekend hours needed. The pay is currently £14/hour. We pay a mileage allowance of 45p a mile. Contract for the right person up to 8 hours per week, with opportunities for extra hours to meet the needs of the business.
- Hours can be varied across the week depending on the needs of the members needing support, our successful social groups groups mainly run in the evenings and on weekends.
- We are an established charity, with over 12 years experience delivering person centred support. We have an employee assistance program and are a mindful employer.
The possible down sides?
- Flexibility is needed, with hours that will increase as we continue to build the services in the Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, North and South Tyneside areas. You need to be able to grow with us.
- You are willing to have a full DBS check carried out, paid for by us.

What are the requirements?
The role of a support worker is to provide person centred support in our Social Group service.
The right candidate will be happy to provide contracted hours up to 8 per week plus opportunities for additiional adhoc/bank hours and work with a number of members.
As well as organising their time to complete the necessary admin, organisation and structure to the highest of standards.
Relationships are everything at Autism Matters Newcastle branch and we pride ourselves on being there for our members and their families. You will need to have a deep understanding of people and the ability to empathise with the realities of their day to day lives.
The right candidate will ideally have first hand experience of working with autistic people and a deep rooted ambition to make the provisions available the best they can be.
Tasks
- Delivering autism specific services, following guidance and established unbelievably successful processes
- Taking part and supporting people to live their best lives.
- Team working and training.
- Understanding support needs, and plans, and working in partnership with members to deliver the individual person centred support that works for them.
- Using google drive for all admin tasks, and an app called Homebase for access to their shifts.
- Organising and Transporting members to and from their activities
- Providing daily session feedback
You must
- Have an adult transferable valid DBS certificate or be willing to have one done
- Be willing to provide 2 References (including current/most recent employment)
- Have a full and clear UK driving licence with business insurance
- Be able to use Google drive and Gmail
- Have full and reliable internet connection at home
- Have relevant experience supporting autistic people
