Yard Person / Mechanic Wanted
Location: Burton-on-Trent
Hours: Saturday to Monday
Typical hours: Saturday and Sunday around 6:00am–4:00pm, with an earlier Monday start likely, around 4:00am–9:00am. Hours may vary slightly to suit the operation.
We are looking for a reliable and practical Yard Person / Mechanic to join our team at MB Retail Distribution Ltd.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is mechanically minded, organised, and happy to muck in where needed. The role will involve supporting the day-to-day running of the yard and helping keep our vehicles and equipment ready for operation.
Main Duties
Duties will include:
- General yard duties and keeping the site clean, tidy and organised
- Basic vehicle and trailer checks
- Assisting with minor repairs and maintenance
- Checking oil, water, tyres, lights and general vehicle condition
- Supporting drivers with vehicle readiness
- Reporting defects and maintenance issues
- Moving vehicles or trailers where appropriately licensed
- Helping ensure the yard is safe and operationally ready
- Other duties as required to support the transport operation
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and punctual
- Practical and mechanically minded
- Able to work independently
- Happy working outdoors and in a busy transport environment
- A good communicator
- Willing to be flexible with hours where the operation requires it
- Safety-conscious and organised
Previous experience in a transport yard, workshop, HGV environment, plant, agricultural machinery or similar would be an advantage.
An HGV licence, forklift licence or mechanical qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential for the right person.
