We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing and well-established construction business, for an experienced Senior Buyer / Procurement Lead to join their Commercial team in Nottingham.

I'm looking for someone with a strong construction background who is commercially minded, organised and confident when dealing with suppliers. You'll play an important role in making sure projects have the materials and services they need, when they need them, while achieving the best possible value for the business.

You'll source materials and services, negotiate prices, manage purchase orders and monitor supplier performance. You'll also be expected to identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs and strengthen supplier relationships.
This is a hands-on role, so you'll need to be comfortable managing multiple priorities and working in a busy construction environment.

- Monitoring supplier pricing, performance and spend.
- Working closely with Site Managers, Contracts Managers and the Commercial team to understand project requirements.
- Supporting tender submissions by obtaining supplier quotations.
- Expediting orders where required to avoid project delays.
- Dealing with supplier invoice queries alongside the Finance team.
- Maintaining accurate purchasing and supplier records.
- Managing repair requests for company vehicles and plant equipment.
- Looking for ways to improve procurement processes and achieve cost savings.
- Ensuring purchasing activity follows company procedures and commercial requirements.
About You
Ideally, you'll have previous experience working as a Buyer or Senior Buyer within the construction industry and have a good understanding of construction procurement.
You'll also need:
- Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
- Experience managing supplier relationships.
- Good knowledge of construction materials, plant hire and/or subcontract services.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
- A proactive approach to problem solving.
- The ability to work well with site teams, suppliers and internal departments.
CIPS qualification or experience using procurement/ERP systems would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
What's on Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Permanent, full-time position.
- Monday to Friday working hours.
- Training and development opportunities.
- Supportive working environment.
- The opportunity to join a growing construction business and play a key role within the Commercial team.
