Procurement Assistant – Interims
Hours: 36 Hours Per Week (2 Days Remote, 3 Days Office)
Contract: 7+ Month Temporary Contract

We're recruiting a Procurement Assistant to support the Council's Legal and Governance team. This is a key support role, ideal for someone organised, detail-oriented, and experienced in working within a public-sector procurement environment.
About the Role:
As a Procurement Assistant, you'll provide essential support to the Procurement Business Partner, assisting with the delivery of effective procurement activities for goods, works, and services across the Council. You'll support end-to-end procurement exercises, ensure compliance with the Procurement Act 2023, and contribute to robust governance, transparency, and value-for-money outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Supporting the Procurement Business Partner with procurement activities across multiple service areas
- Assisting with end-to-end procurement exercises, ensuring compliance with Council procedures and the Procurement Act 2023
- Supporting tender processes, including preparing documentation, managing timelines, and coordinating with internal stakeholders
- Using electronic procurement portals and contract management systems to manage procurement activities
- Maintaining procurement records, including the Contracts Register and transparency notices
- Assisting with drafting and issuing legally compliant procurement outcome letters
- Providing administrative support for procurement projects and maintaining accurate documentation
- Supporting the development and improvement of procurement procedures, guidance notes, and processes
- Keeping up to date with procurement legislation, regulations, and best practice
- Working collaboratively with service areas and stakeholders to deliver value-for-money outcomes
- Handling confidential information in line with data protection and Council policies
- Promoting equality, diversity, inclusion, and professional standards in all activities
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone proactive, accurate, and confident managing multiple procurement activities within a busy public-sector environment.
You'll ideally have:
- GCSEs including Maths and English (or equivalent experience) – Essential
- Experience working in public-sector or local government procurement – Essential
- Experience supporting public-sector tender exercises and compliant procurement processes – Essential
- Experience contributing to projects and working with stakeholders at different organisational levels
- Ability to apply professional judgement and make informed decisions
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Experience using electronic procurement portals and contract management systems
- Understanding of public-sector procurement regulations and best practice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to organise workload, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining quality standards
