Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Stores Person / Yard Person / Forklift Truck Operator to join our team. This role involves managing warehouse operations, handling materials, and operating forklift equipment safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will play a vital part in ensuring smooth logistics, accurate stock management, and timely shipping and receiving processes. A strong understanding of warehouse procedures, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to perform heavy lifting are essential for this position.
Responsibilities
- Manage stock levels using the warehouse management system, ensuring accurate inventory records.
- Load and unload goods safely using appropriate equipment such as forklifts.
- Operate forklift trucks and other warehouse machinery in compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist with materials handling, including moving goods within the yard and storage areas.
- Perform basic safety checks, equipment repairs or report maintenance issues promptly.
- Organise shipping and receiving activities to ensure timely dispatch and receipt of goods.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in the yard and warehouse.
- Assist with stock organisation, storage, and retrieval as required.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure operational safety.
- Support overall warehouse management tasks to optimise workflow efficiency.
- Occasional assistance with delivering to customers or our own sites
- Occasional collection from suppliers
Experience
- Proven experience in warehouse management or similar role is preferred.
- Competence in operating forklift trucks; certification is advantageous.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Mechanical knowledge for basic equipment repairs and troubleshooting.
- Experience in materials handling, shipping & receiving processes.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Basic maths skills for inventory counting and documentation.
- Previous experience working in a warehouse environment is desirable but not essential; training will be provided where necessary.
Pay: £12.50-£13.50 per hour
