While our core business historically centres on the residential development sector throughout the North West, our recent acquisition by a major southern-based engineering firm has positioned us for rapid growth.
We are expanding our portfolio, specifically across complex superstructure and substructure developments, and are now seeking a dynamic, highly experienced Principal Chartered Structural Engineer to lead and grow our structural section.
The Opportunity
This is a pivotal, high-profile senior position reporting directly to the Managing Director. As the head of the structural department, you will combine day-to-day operational management with strategic leadership, driving the expansion of the team and broadening our scope of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Departmental Leadership: Manage the day-to-day operations of the structural engineering team, overseeing project delivery and team workflows.
- Strategic Growth: Spearhead a programme of department expansion, including business development and fostering long-term client relationships.
- Technical Oversight: Lead the design and delivery of diverse structural engineering projects from concept through to completion, providing technical direction and sign-off.
- Project Delivery: Prepare detailed structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and conduct structural surveys.
- Team Development: Mentor, manage, and nurture the growth of junior engineers and technicians.
- Client & Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for existing and prospective clients, ensuring commissions are delivered to the highest standard.
- Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with internal disciplines and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years’ general UK construction experience, ideally within a multi-disciplinary practice.
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record in a senior management role, with demonstrable experience leading engineering teams and managing client relationships.
- Professional Qualifications: Must be Chartered with IStructE or ICE (or both). Additional relevant professional qualifications are highly advantageous.
- Education: A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng).
- Technical Mastery: Extensive experience in superstructure and substructure engineering design across all project stages, backed by strong proficiency in industry-standard software.
- Skills: Exceptional communication skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and a proactive approach to business growth and team leadership.
